Jon Olszowy Obituary

Whiting:  Jon W Olszowy 73, fell asleep in the Lord On Sunday April 21st at Toms River Community Hospital with his family by his side.

Jon was born in Passaic, NJ to Bruno and Ann (Wolosevich) on April 2, 1951. He was raised on Davison Street in Clifton.

On April 19th, 1968 Jon joined the US Army. He did basic training at Fort Dix. After basic training he was sent to Advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He received his orders to go to Vietnam in April 1969. He was with 84th combat engineers, A Company, Tuy Hoa, South Vietnam. He proudly served his country till 1971, receiving an honorable discharge.

Jon was a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America, the VFW post 2833, Kenvil, New Jersey and the American Legion Post 0278 of Stanhope.

Jon met his soulmate Lisa, in August of 1972. They married in June of 1975 and resided in Garfield till 1986. They moved their family to Flanders NJ. They enjoyed a great life in their home till 2021 when they relocated to Whiting. In 1999, they bought their second home in South Seaside Park and enjoyed many beach days with friends and family until selling it in 2019; their door was always open.

Jon was formerly employed with NY Sash and Door Clifton, Curtiss Wright Fairfield, Tiffany & Company Parsippany, UPS Paramus, Garden State Asphalt Hackettstown, ETGI Flanders, Region Oil of Kenvil and Heirloom Reality Dover. He took an early retirement in 2014 for health reasons related to Agent Orange exposure.

Jon loved trains, all kinds of trains. From passenger to model N scale, he dreamed of having a big layout, but first he'd have to clean out the garage. He also loved tools and fixing things around the house, hot water heaters feared him. He'd joked that he has tools to repair other tools.

He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Randolph and regularly participated in the Eucharist. Prior to joining Holy Trinity, he was a parishioner of Elevation of the Holy Cross RO Church, Hackettstown where he served behind the altar.

Jon is survived by his loving wife Lisa (Kulick) of almost 49 years, his adored son Jonathan, and daughter-law Lauren, and their children of Sanford Maine. Being Pop-pop to his beloved grandchildren Aleksander, Gabriela, and Nicholai was one of his greatest joys. He is also survived by his brother Michael and sister-in-law Linda of Hopatcong. His brother-in-law Fred Kulick and his wife Barbara of Mansfield. His "like a sister-in-law" Marie Berkowtize of Crestview, Florida as well as Victoria Scarpa & Carol Viola. Many cousins, nephews and beloved friends. He is also survived by his estranged daughter Rachel Canfield and her husband William.

Visitation will be Sunday April 28th from 4-7 PM at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 120 Dover Chester Rd, Randolph NJ. Panikhida at 6:30PM. Funeral service will be 9:30 AM Monday April 29th at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery Clifton NJ.
